I’ve been photographing the dress rehearsals for Calgary Opera for over 25 years. Calgarians have one more thing to look forward to in the summer. Opera in the Village festival is back for a second season! This extraordinary production is a one of a kind summer festival experience. It’s the only outdoor Opera in Canada! Artistic Director (and Order of Canada recipient) Bob McPhee has once again been a ground breaker in the Opera community.
The production takes place in a huge tent in The East Village – the newest and coolest urban district in the city.
Candide, the comedic masterpiece of Leonard Bernstein, is sure to drop jaws, evoke laughter and purely entertain the crowds.
An all-star Canadian cast with Matthew Bruce as Candide, Tracy Dahl as Cunegonde, Norine Burgess as Paquette, Alexander Dobson as Maximilian, Lynne McMurtry as the Old Lady, and David LeReaney as Dr. Pangloss, accompanied by a live orchestra.
